Dr. Marlén Oliver Vázquez receives Abelardo Díaz Alfaro Award

Dr. Marlén Oliver Vázquez was recognized with the Abelardo Díaz Alfaro's Humanities in Medicine Award. The Award was announced by the Pan-American Health Organization, the Hostosian Bioethical Institute (IHB in Spanish), the Graduate School of Public Health, and the Dean of Academic Affairs from the UPR-Medical Sciences Campus. Dr. Oliver Vázquez, is a professor at the Gerontology Program from the UPR-Medical Sciences Campus' Graduate School of Public Health.

The Award, named after the illustrious Puerto Rican storyteller Abelardo Díaz Alfaro, honors individuals who make a great contribution on the humanistic dimension development of health professionals. With works like "Breast Cancer Health Promotion Model for Older Puerto Rican Women: Results of a Pilot Programme", "The Need for Training in Gerontology and Geriatrics Among the Staff Providing Services at a Geriatric Care Institution" and "The Ethics of Public Health", Oliver has proved her devotion to the profession through hard work and perseverance.

This recognition was given by the American Academy of Family Physicians, Puerto Rico chapter. The award was presented on April, 23, 2009 at the John B. Grant conference room of the Graduate School of Public Health
